About City Diplomacy
In the lead up to a series of important international events culminating in COP 21 (Paris, December 2015), C40 developed a City Diplomacy Strategy as a mechanism to further accelerate city action and support efforts to better link these to national ambitions.
The key goals of C40’s city diplomacy strategy are to:
- Demonstrate How Cities Are Leading the Way
- Catalyze Action and Secure Resources for C40 Cities
- Have a Positive Impact on an Inter-Governmental Agreement to Tackle Climate Change

COP 21 is anticipated to be the most important and decisive multilateral conference on climate change. It will bring together leaders from nation states to discuss the next global treaty on climate change, drawing participation from international organizations, financial institutions, the private sector, NGOs and the media.
C40 is working with its partners and the City of Paris to bring together the largest gathering of Mayors around the world to demonstrate leadership and innovation by cities in the fight against climate change, and to send a strong message to member states taking part in the COP.
