At the C40 Mayors Summit in Johannesburg earlier this year, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter joined the C40 News Team to explain how grassroots sustainability programs at the city level are integral to driving national and international action on climate change.

Mayor Nutter highlighted the sustainability work Philadelphia has already undertaken with its Greenworks program, and added that the city will utilize lessons learned through C40 to help achieve its goal of becoming the greenest city in the United States.

“We’re focused on sustainability and we’ve had great gains in that regard, but we’re always looking to learn from other cities…it’s about sharing, it’s about learning, it’s about the grassroots – people on the ground, paying attention, who want a better planet, who want to leave things better for our children.”
