U.S. Green Building Council's Greenbuild 2012

November 14, 2013 - November 16, 2013 San Francisco, California

The U.S. Green Building Council is holding its annual Greenbuild event in San Francisco from November 14-16, 2012. Greenbuild features three days of speakers, networking opportunities, industry showcases, LEED workshops and tours of the host city's green buildings. The C40 is supporting two sessions with a focus on cities at Greenbuild 2012 – and a number of C40 Cities from around the world are planning to attend.

Session 1: The Importance of District Scale Development. (Wednesday, November 14th, 1:30 – 2:30pm) District-scale policies and solutions can be carefully targeted to local circumstances without losing the critical mass required for economic and technical viability. They also serve as important test-beds that can subsequently be replicated. This session explores district-scale solutions in the global context and presents two case studies. Zach Tofias, Director of the C40's Sustainable Communities Initiative will be moderating the interactive discussion, with case studies to be presented by Krista Milne, Manager Sustainability, City of Melbourne; and Rob Bennett, Executive Director, Portland Sustainability Institute (PoSI).

Session 2: How Cities are Driving Global Sustainability (Friday, November 16th, 9:30 – 10:30 am) Cities around the world are embracing the opportunity to play an integral role in addressing the impacts of the built environment through innovative sustainability policy. Dr. Rohit Aggarwala, Senior Policy Advisor to the Chair, C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, will moderate the discussion among international leaders from C40 Cities about their vision for developing programs and leveraging policy to green the built environment and their communities for generations to come. C40 Cities participating in this session include: Melbourne, San Francisco, Tokyo, and Vancouver.
