Climate Opportunity: More Jobs; Better Health
As cities around the world accelerate efforts to meet their commitments to the Paris Agreement, new research from C40 Cities, The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy and the New Climate Institute, shows that ambitious urban climate policies can vastly reduce carbon emissions globally as well as effectively deliver enormous economic and public health benefits for cities.
Climate Opportunity: More Jobs; Better Health; Liveable Cities estimates that by 2030, a boost in urban climate action can prevent approximately 1.3 million premature deaths per year, net generate 13.7 million jobs in cities, and save 40 billion hours of commuters’ time plus billions of dollars in reduced household expenses each year.

Constructing a New Low Carbon Future: How Chinese cities are scaling ambitious building energy efficiency solutions.
The C40 China Buildings Programme (C40 CBP) has launched a new report, Constructing a New Low Carbon Future: How Chinese cities are scaling ambitious building energy efficiency solutions. Authored by C40 Cities and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory China Group (LBNL-CG), this report details how the C40 CBP will assist the cities of Beijing, Fuzhou, Qingdao, and Changing District Shanghai as they develop, implement and scale ambitious city-wide building energy efficiency policies linked to the Thirteenth Five Year Plan. In addition, the report showcases existing urban policy achievements in the sphere of building energy efficiency and embedded renewables, with examples from both China and around the world.

Urban Climate Action Impacts Framework: A Framework Describing and Measuring the Wider Impacts of Urban Climate Action
This document presents an Urban Climate Action Impacts Framework (UCAIF or ‘the Framework’) that can be applied when exploring the wider impact of city climate action, and builds on the work started by C40 and LSE. The report functions as a user guide with common principles, taxonomy and guidelines for approaching the mapping and assessment of those wider impacts. The outputs of the work aim to catalyse medium-term development of the tools, resources and evidence cities need to make the case for climate action by linking that climate action to the other priorities they face.

Consumption based GHG emissions of C40 cities
New research by C40 Cities, the University of Leeds, University of New South Wales, and Arup examines the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with goods and services consumed by residents of cities such as food, clothing, electronic equipment, airplane travel, delivery trucks and construction industries. The findings reveal a detailed picture of the supply chains and sphere of impact that mayors, businesses and citizens can potentially influence with their climate action.

Measurement & Planning
Consistent measurement is the first step in effective management. The Measurement and Planning Initiative, housed within C40 Research, focuses on building capacity in member cities to tackle climate change strategically through the measurement of GHG emissions and climate impacts, annual reporting of climate data, and development of climate action plans. These efforts are provided through three workstreams: Measurement; Reporting; and Climate Risk and Adaptation Framework and Taxonomy. Most recently, the Initiative launched an interactive dashboard with four unique ways to explore historical GHG emissions of C40 cities reported via the standardized GPC protocol.
